Not So Sudden Impact Fee Decision, Alley Closure Issue Deferred

Thursday, October 30, 2008

In a 4-3 vote at Tuesday's meeting, Council approved an increase in impact fees but deferred their imposition until July, 2009.

At that time, the hike will add about $2,235 to the water and sewer impact fees for a new residential unit (up from about $11,841) as well as an increase for a new business, depending upon projected water use.

Prescott City Council members also chose to continue the proposed closure of an alley on the Prescott College campus until December.

At issue, was a request by Prescott College to close the alley west between Western Drive and Sheldon Street. The request was based upon an effort to make the campus more pedestrian-friendly. The move is opposed by neighbors in the area who use the alley for connectivity to major streets.

The college has proposed a purchase of the alleyway land, as well as a section of the nearby Garden Street from the city for $61,765.
