Dog-Toberfest drew record numbers

"Best Costume" winner

City Councilwoman Lora Lopas and family reached consensus on a new puppy
The City of Prescott's annual Dogtoberfest on the Courthouse Plaza event continues to grow, drawing thousands of visitors and participants on Sunday from Phoenix to Flagstaff.
On-site vendors ran the gamut from mobile groomers, a canine masseuse specialist, and micro-chipping services—to boarding facilities, speciality foods and more.
Along with crowd pleasing events like Best Costume, Ugliest Dog, and Fastest Dog, was the real focus of the day—pet adoption and the importance of spay and neuter. "We work with all of the local rescue groups in an effort to raise public awareness for the growing need for adoptive homes," said event organizer Becky Garvin. "Last year we adopted out over 40 dogs. We're still in the process of pulling this year's numbers together, but I know many dogs found new, loving homes on Sunday."
All local rescue groups are striving to reach the goal of "No More Homeless Pets" in Yavapai County by 2010.
