Tentative Prescribed Fire plans for the week of October 5th

PRESCOTT, AZ (October 2, 2009) - Pending favorable conditions, fire managers are planning the following prescribed fires for the week of October 5th. Depending on conditions, any of the areas may be treated during the week. The Forest Service prepares comprehensive fire plans in advance of any prescribed burn project. The plan specifies information on weather and fuel conditions that must exist before a fire will be ignited.
All prescribed fire activity is dependent on personnel availability, weather (including ventilation conditions) and approval from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ).
Verde RD:
—Wilson Fuel Break Approximately 20 acres, 4 miles north of the junction at Highway 169 and County road 75 (T14N, R3E, Sec 31)
—Cherry Piles Approximately 20 acres, 1 mile south of Cherry (T14N, R3E, Sec 17) Chino RD:
—Camp Wood Approximately 1000 acres, west of Hyde Mountain (T17N, R7W, Sec 26- 27, 33-34)
Bradshaw RD:
—Groom Creek/Kendall Camp Approximately 1100 acres, starting with a 450 acre block north and west of Camp Maripai, a 200 acre block west of Camp Maripai, a 340 acre block south and east of Camp Maripai, and a 50 acre block south of Groom Creek Campground (T13N, R2W, Sec 21-23,26-28,33-34)
—Ash Creek Approximately 1000 acres, south of Towers Mountain (T10N, R1W, Sec 8-9, 16-18, 20)
The purpose of all prescribed fire treatments is to return fire to its natural role in the ecosystem, protect life and property from wildfire, and manage for a diverse and well-distributed pattern of habitats for wildlife populations.
Road closures are not expected, but drivers may encounter road delays and smoke in some areas and are asked to please be cautious when driving in these areas.
