Arts Rule at Public Library

The Arts Rule this week at the library, with movies, poetry and coaching on grant seeking for the artist. Enjoy the Just for Grownups film Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., join the poetry discussion Wednesday morning, or join Cafe Socrates Thursday morning.

Capture Arizona's Stories continues at the library. Tell your own story or interview someone else to save your own bit of Arizona history Monday through Saturday until October 24th.

Kids can join the Dewey Know It book club on Tuesday, attend a storytime, and Meet Real Reptiles on Saturday.

Monday through Saturday

By appointment Capturing Arizona's Stories. Digitize your own slice of Arizona history. Interview friends and family or take the role of storyteller. Participants get to keep the CD they create. Now through October 24th, preregistration is required. Stop by the Ask A Librarian desk or call 777-1526.

Tuesday, October 6

3:30 p.m. "Dewey Know it?" Nonfiction Book Club. Kids in grades 2-4 can earn a Dewey Decimal Diploma by learning to find nonfiction books using the library catalog and the Dewey Decimal system. This month features the 700s: art and sports. 777-1537.

6:30 p.m. "Just for Grownups" International Film Series 'The Drummer,' directed by Kenneth Bi (Hong Kong, 118 min. in Cantonese and Mandarin with English subtitles). The Drummer is the first feature film from Hong Kong and Taiwan selected for competition at the Sundance Film Festival, where it won The Hollywood Reporter's Critics' Pick. Enjoy award-winning international films on the first Tuesday of each month. 777-1500.

Wednesday, October 7

10 a.m. Toddler Storytime. Join Mr. Steve for stories, songs and activities selected especially for ages 0-3. Siblings are welcome, and there is no need to register in advance. 777-1537

10:00 Wednesday Poetry Discussion Group. Join Dr. Janet Preston to enjoy and discuss great poetry in an informal setting. This free program is open to all. Copies of poems will be distributed at the gathering. 777-1500

1:00 Getting Started with Foundation Grants to Individuals. Scott Ullmann of the Foundation Center San Francisco office will present this workshop especially for individual grant seekers. Register free online at www.prescottlibrary.info or call 928-777-1526.

1:45 Grantseeking Basics for Individuals in the Arts. Thursday, October 8

10 a.m. Silly Thursday Storytime. A silly, wiggly story time for ages 2-5. Siblings are welcome, and there is no need to register in advance. 777-1537

10 a.m. Cafe Socrates. Joel Thomas will facilitate discussions encouraging participants to articulate, explore, and further discover their singular philosophy of life, and to develop and contribute their unique talents and potentials.

Friday, October 9

10 a.m. Preschool Storytime. Join Miss Jennifer for stories, finger plays, and songs. Each week has a different theme. The program is designed for ages 3-5, but siblings are always welcome. Preschool Storytime is held in the James Children's Activity Room, and lasts about 45 minutes. 777-1537

Saturday, October 10

10:30 Meet Real Reptiles. Wayne Fischer from Central Arizona Reptile Rescue and Education (C.A.R.R.E) will bring a variety of reptiles. Free and open to everyone. 777-1537.
