Monday is Columbus Day, and both Prescott Public Library and the Gateway Branch Library will be closed.

Sunday though, there is the Canyon Country Community Lecture Series. Salt and Soap will be special guests of Ranger Lori as she tells the true story of these two puppies who wandered into the Grand Canyon.

Wild Trees: A story of passion and daring,will provoke lively discussion at the Tuesday Morning Book Club. 'Page Turners with Miss Joan,' a read-along storytime for ages six and up meets Thursday morning.

In the evening enjoy a Third Thursday Star Talk with the Prescott Astronomy Club, examining how we benefit from space program technology. The Third Friday Chamber Music Concert will soothe away all those week-day worries.

Sunday, October 11 Canyon Country Community Lecture Series: Join author and park ranger Lori Rome as she presents " Salt & Soap: A True Canine Story of Friendship and Adventure at Grand Canyon." Monday, October 12

Prescott Public Library and Prescott Gateway Branch library at Gateway Mall will be closed for Columbus Day.

Tuesday through Saturday by Appointment Capturing Arizona's Stories. Digitize your own slice of Arizona history. Interview friends and family or take the role of storyteller. Participants get to keep the CD they create. Now through October 24th, preregistration is required. Stop by the Ask-a- Librarian desk or call 777-1526.

Tuesday, October 13

10:00 a.m. Tuesday Morning Book Club. "Wild Trees: A story of passion and daring," by Richard Preston. Join PPL librarians for a lively book discussion each month. Next month, �Alex and Me� by Irene Pepperberg. 777-1500

10 a.m. Toddler Storytime. Join Mr. Steve for stories, songs and activities selected especially for ages 0-3. Siblings are welcome, and there is no need to register in advance. 777-1537

Thursday, October 15

10 a.m. Silly Thursday Storytime. A silly, wiggly story time for ages 2-5. Siblings are welcome, and there is no need to register in advance. 777-1537

3:30 p.m. Page Turners with Miss Joan. A read-aloud program for ages six and up with Miss Joan for stories every Thursday afternoon. Some sessions will include crafts or other activities inspired by the stories. 777-1537

6:30 p.m. Third Thursday Star Talks: "Beyond Tang: The Hidden Benefits of the Space Program," Dr. Nadine Barlow, NAU Astro-Physics & Arizona Space Grant Consortium. Free copy of NASA's "Spinoff" book free to everyone attending. Join the Prescott Astronomy Club for talks on hot topics in astronomy and space science. Free. 777-1500

Friday, October 16

10 a.m. Preschool Storytime. Join Miss Jennifer for stories, finger plays, and songs. Each week has a different theme. The program is designed for ages 3-5, but siblings are always welcome. Preschool Storytime is held in the James Children's Activity Room, and lasts about 45 minutes. 777-1537

1:30 p.m. Finding Your Memoir Project Workshop for Graduates. Facilitator Maureen VanWalleghan will work with Finding Your Memoir graduates who wish to have support to develop a writing project. Prerequisite: completion of a Finding Your Memoir series or a meeting with the instructor. Free registration required. 777-1500

4:00 p.m. Third Friday Chamber Music. Cello duets by Bach and Kummer; Brahms Quintet for clarinet and strings. Enjoy these free concerts performed by local chamber players and special guests. 777-1500

Sunday, October 18

2 p.m. PFAA Readers Theatre: "Galileo's Heavenly Dream," written and directed by Dino Palazzi. Enjoy this staged reading, a partnership with the Prescott Fine Arts Association. 777-1500
