Tyson House Removal Scheduled
Tuesday, April 13, 2010
The City of Prescott will begin removal of the Tyson House at 225 S. Cortez St. on Wednesday, April 14th. According to a Streets Division spokesman, demolition will take place over two days during normal working hours.
Last year, while the house was being appraised for its historical value, it was determined by the Prescott Historical Society that the 1881 Queen Anne Victorian style home had been so heavily manipulated over the years that it had lost its significance "and was just another old house in bad shape."
The City placed the house on the auction block in hopes of finding a buyer who would move the structure to a new location, but received no bids.
As part of the purchase agreement, the City plans to install a plaque on the property in honor of Ethel B. Tyson and her family (The Shulls) who originally built and inhabitated the home. The location of the plaque will be mutually determined by the City and the Prescott Historical Society.
