Prescott Comes Together for National Night Out
Wednesday, July 28, 2010
Local law enforcement agencies invite all area residents to their free National Night Out event on Monday, August 2 at the Yavapai County Courthouse on Prescott Courthouse Plaza from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.
Local blues band Road 1 South will provide free live music, and local law enforcement agencies and representatives including they Yavapai Prescott Tribal Police, Arizona Department of Public Safety, Yavapai County Sheriff's Office and the Prescott, Prescott Valley and Chino Valley Police Departments will talk about crime prevention and will be available to answer questions from the public.
This free concert and talk from law enforcement representatives takes place the day before the 27th Annual National Night Out: America's Night Out Against Crime on August 3, a nationwide drug and crime prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch.
National Night Out is designed for communities and neighborhoods to come together, get to know one another better, learn about crime prevention techniques and hopefully serve as an opportunity for residents to create and operate their own neighborhood crime watch and crime prevention programs.
"The Block Watch program continues to grow each year," said crime prevention specialist Traces Gordon of the Prescott Police Department. "When people see it's fun, they're going to get involved."
Residents interested in learning more about starting their own Block Watch programs are encouraged to contact Traces Gordon, Domenick Negri or Tony Palermo of the Prescott Police Department's Crime Prevention Section at 928-777-1967 or by email at traces.gordon@prescott-az.gov. Community members are also invited to visit the Prescott Police Department (222 S. Marina St.) to complete a National Night Out official block party registration form.
