Wednesday, May 29, 2013
On Friday, May 31, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. representatives of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) will officially recognize City officials, employees, and local media for their role in supporting Guard and Reserve employees. The ceremony will take place in Council Chambers located at City Hall, 201 S. Cortez. Members of the public and media are welcome to attend.
The City's employment practices recently resulted in the City receiving the Pro Patria Award. The City of Prescott was selected out of a pool of 44 Arizona employers and according to the ESGR is a stellar example of a model employer. The City is also one of 30 employers selected as finalists for the 2013 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award. The Freedom Award is the Department of Defense's highest honor for employers that provide extraordinary support to their Guard and Reserve employees. This year's finalists were chosen from 2,899 employers nominated by a Guard or Reserve employee.
The City of Prescott was nominated by Lieutenant Colonel Jon Paladini, Arizona Army National Guard, Staff Sergeant Tim Legler, Air Force Reserve and Specialist Clint Handley of the Arizona Army National Guard. ESGR's Pro Patria Award is presented annually by each ESGR State Committee to one small, one large and one public sector employer in their state or territory. Recipients have demonstrated the greatest support to Guard and Reserve employees through their leadership and practices. This is the highest level award that may be bestowed by a state ESGR committee.
