Friday, August 23, 2013

The City of Prescott is pleased to announce its recent hire of Jeff Burt, who will be the new director of economic initiatives. He will begin his new role on September 9.

Burt brings more than twenty-five years of economic development leadership experience working in highly competitive markets including Greater Phoenix, Washington D.C. and Indianapolis. Most recently he served as the president of the Hamilton County Alliance in Indianapolis, which has been the county's economic development organization since 1992.

"Jeff has an impressive record of business development and securing jobs, capital investments, and attracting national and international businesses," said City Manager Craig McConnell. "He will play an important role in the growth of Prescott's economic future."

Prior to working for Hamilton County Alliance, Burt was the vice president of corporate accounts for the Greater Phoenix Economic Council (GPEC) directing the organization's business attraction efforts. Before joining GPEC, he held similar economic development positions with the Phoenix Economic Growth Corporation and the Montgomery County Office of Economic Development in Rockville Maryland.

Burt was born and raised in Ohio where he earned his B.A. and M.A. degrees in geography from Bowling Green State University. He earned the title Certified Economic Developer from the International Economic Development Council in 1989. Mr. Burt and his wife, Janel, a life coach, have a son, Alex, who is a recent graduate of the University of Oregon and resides in California.

Burt will fill the role of the director of economic initiatives that has been vacant since August 2010, when former economic development director Jane Bristol retired.
