The Department considers employment applications for Police Officers from two sources: an open posting for Arizona Certified Officers, and a regular recruitment process for new officers.

“Police Officer Employment Applications” are being accepted on an ongoing basis.

“Police Officer Employment Applications” may be obtained at Prescott City Hall, 201 S. Cortez Street, the Prescott Police Department, 222 S. Marina Street, or you may request a “Police Officer Employment Application” by contacting the Human Resources Department at 928-777-1347.

The standard City of Prescott “Employment Application” which can be downloaded from the city website should not be used for Police Officer Applicants. This application can be downloaded ONLY when positions are open.

Prior to requesting a “Police Officer Employment Application”, please confirm the officer position is listed under “Current Job Openings” at the City of Prescott’s Employment page.

The testing process for Police Officer (and Volunteer Reserve Police Officer) includes a written examination (Must obtain a 70% or better), a physical fitness test (mile and half run, flexibility test, push ups and sit ups), and an oral board interview. You may prepare for the written examination by reviewing publications pertaining to police testing available through libraries and commercial sources.

An applicant who maintains a regular regimen of physical exercise will be more likely to score well on the physical fitness test. A successful applicant must meet all of the certification requirements of the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (AzPOST).

An applicant can not become a certified officer unless they meet minimum AzPOST standards. You can see the requirements at www.Azpost.state.az.us

Assignment Pay

Reserve Officer Program

Candidates can apply for a Volunteer Reserve Police Officer position with the Prescott Police Department during a scheduled and advertised selection process. Reserve Officer applicants must meet the same AzPOST certification requirements and must complete the same 17 week Police Academy as full time police officer applicants.
